It was thrilling to be able to showcase a special, extended sneak peek of Spirit Halloween: The Movie at the grand opening event for our flagship store in Egg Harbor Township, N.J., on July 30th. Now, the official trailer dropped and, if you’re like us, you are SCREAMING for its September 30 limited theatrical release. Spirit Halloween: The Movie will stream on VOD platforms starting October 11th.

Here are the five reasons why we can’t wait to see Spirit Halloween: The Movie!

1. We’re (obviously) obsessed with the concept

A Spirit Halloween store pops up in an abandoned lot and a group of kids dares each other to spend Halloween night inside. As we can see from the official trailer, mayhem ensues when the animatronics are possessed by an evil spirit who attacks the main characters. Seriously, what’s a better movie concept than trying to survive the night while locked in a Spirit Halloween store filled with possessed animatronics?

2. Christopher Lloyd is in it

This man is a legend, especially for those who appreciate classic movies from the 80s and 90s.  He’s been “Doc” Brown in Back to the Future, Klingon commander Kruge in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, Judge Doom in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and Uncle Fester in The Addams Family and Addams Family Values. He always plays interesting, eccentric characters so it will be exciting to see him play the role of land developer and possibly the ghost of Alec Windsor.

3. We love the trailer

At the start, we see a brief glimpse of Alec Windsor’s death and hear the main characters reference a spirit said to haunt their town for one hour every year on Halloween night. Tense music plays as we see Jake and his friends dare each other to spend a night in their recently opened, local Spirit Halloween location. And who doesn’t love a kids-on-bike trope?

We next see them inside the store, hiding in a display as the last employee locks up and the lights go off. This would be a nightmare for many, but not for the characters who, excited by their Halloween night challenge, begin to emerge laughing from the store’s display. When animatronics start to move it becomes clear that something is deeply wrong.

4. We’ll learn about the curse

In the teaser trailer, we hear a reference to a curse that forces someone to come back for one hour a year, on the anniversary of their death. Is this referencing the apparent death of Alec Windsor from the movie trailer? Was his death on Halloween? Is he haunting this Spirit store?  Can the main characters break this curse?

5. The movie uses real Spirit animatronics

In one of the first scary moments of the trailer, the kids are walking around and see one of our Sinister Spirit Dolls appear suddenly in an aisle. This 2.9-foot-tall terror is just as creepy in real life as she looks in this trailer. We can’t wait to see what other scares this creepy doll has in store.

We’re also equal parts delighted and terrified to see animatronic favorites like Buzzsaw, Mr. Dark, and Nightcrawler come to life. The shot of Buzzsaw breaking through the door in the teaser is nightmare fuel and we love to see it. We look forward to seeing these animatronics in peoples’ yards and on the big screen very soon.

Showing in theaters September 30th and streaming on demand on October 11th, this family-friendly action/adventure movie looks to be packed with both laughs and supernatural scares. Christopher Lloyd, Rachel Leigh Cook, Marla Gibbs, Jaiden J. Smith, Donovan Colvan, Marissa Reyes, Dylan Martin Frankel, and Brad Carter round out the cast in this highly anticipated fall release. Make sure you schedule your Halloween watch parties now!
