Did you know you can celebrate National Dinosaur Day on May 15th and June 1st?  Did you even know that National Dinosaur Day existed?  Well, we fully support any holiday that allows people of all ages to have fun, learn things, AND dress up!

National Dinosaur Day is the perfect day for Dinosaur lovers to celebrate their fascination with, and love for these incredible creatures!  Even though dinosaurs lived 65 million years ago, we are still obsessed with them.  They merge our sense of childlike wonder and curiosity with science and the thrill of discovery.  We love them so much that we even gave ourselves two days to celebrate them!   

Now, let’s talk about how to celebrate Dinosaur Day:

Dress Up Like A Dinosaur

There are tons of ways to celebrate this holiday, but let’s be honest–you need to dress up like a dinosaur to celebrate properly.  How can you fully get into the holiday without looking the part?  Whether your favorite dinosaur is a T-Rex or a Triceratops, costumes are guaranteed to get a laugh and add hours of fun to any Dinosaur Day celebration.  Whatever else you decide to add to your dinosaur-themed day, having the appropriate costume is crucial. 

Eat Dinosaur-Themed Snacks

You can make fun, dinosaur-themed snacks, like dinosaur fossil cookies, to turn your day into a full-on party!  Or, if you want to dine in true dino style, you could always grill some barbeque and eat like a carnivore.     

Watch Dinosaur Videos

Watching fun and educational videos about dinosaurs is a great way to celebrate.  There’s a lot of entertaining and informative content to help increase your knowledge of dinosaurs and help inspire your own Dinosaur Day festivities.    

Plan a Museum Trip

Even though dinosaurs died off millions of years ago, you can still visit the amazing dinosaur exhibits that live in museums all over the country.  A few of the most well-known exhibits are at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago, The Academy of Natural Sciences at Drexel University in Philadelphia, The Rocky Mountain Dinosaur Resource Center near Colorado Springs, and the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C. 

There are many ways to celebrate Nation Dinosaur Day.  You can even incorporate dinosaurs into your favorite daily activities.  Do you like to read?  Dive into the history of these incredible reptiles.  Do you like dinosaur toys?  Dig into your imagination.  How about games?  You and your fellow dinosaur-lovers could organize some spirited, dinosaur-themed trivia!

Dinosaur Facts

Before you start planning your National Dinosaur Day celebration, here are some cool dinosaur facts to inspire you:

  • The Tyrannosaurus Rex used to live in North America.  The modern-day states of Montana and Wyoming were home to the world’s most famous dinosaur!  People still hunt for T-Rex fossils in those states today.
  • The T-Rex wasn’t the only famous dinosaur to live in North America, though.  The Stegosaurus, the Triceratops, and the Diplodocus all walked the same ground as we do.
  • The dinosaur known as the Velociraptor lived in China, but the Velociraptor we see depicted in movies was based on the Deinonychus, which lived in North America.
  • Scientists say that dinosaurs were the ancestors of the birds we see today.  In fact, scientists believe some dinosaurs even had feathers.
