Spooky Spotlight

Beware as you walk towards the house on Maple Street where Molly used to play. Her swing still hangs from the branch of her favorite tree in the front yard, but nothing looks quite like it used to. The light blue Victorian house that once resembled the joyful sky has faded to a withering grey. The vines have weaved themselves around the boarded windows. The giant oak tree is starting to wilt and decay, but that won’t ever stop little Molly from play.

Molly rose from her grave for the first time last year, but no one’s sure exactly how. Although she likes playing alone, she had risen to look for a friend since it had been so long since she last had one. So it’s been told that each time she found a new friend, they vanished one by one and were never seen again. No one could figure it out. Molly seemed like such a sweet girl at first glance, but something always seemed off. She would never allow anyone to see her face. What was it? What could she be hiding?

This would all become clear once you got too close. Little Johnny is the only known survivor of playing with Molly (or the only one who spoke up about what he experienced, at least). Turns out, Molly only looked for friends to feast on, not play with—she said so herself! Little Johnny said that Molly sounded all nice and friendly, but it seemed like a switch would flip inside of her whenever you’d least expect it. Johnny remembers specifically one time Molly said, “Sometimes I pretend I’m the only kid left in the world.” Before he could respond, she screamed and bent all the way backward in the most unnatural, satanic way. That’s when he noticed her eyes. Her eyes glowed a bright, crazed red and her teeth were as sharp as razors. She said, “And someday, I won’t be pretending anymore!” in a purely demonic voice. Before she even had the chance to move another muscle, Johnny ran faster than he ever thought he possibly could. Some way, somehow, Johnny made it back home safely. He tried telling his parents about Molly, but when they went back to that old house down the street, she was nowhere in sight. All they ever found was a gravestone with Molly’s name on it in the backyard.

So whatever happened to Molly, you ask? Well, that remains a mystery. Legend has it, she mostly remains quiet and peaceful in her grave, but once a year she comes back to her favorite swing to feed. The only question is, for how long?

Last night was pretty stormy, almost like the night when Molly was first seen. Johnny watched as the storm grew stronger and stronger through his bedroom window. The wind picked up. The lightning struck, and out came Menacing Molly from her grave. She’s been resurrected.
